I went to more than 20 places last 2 days in order to find a room in Taipei. The quality of room is rather low compared to the rent. Kitchen is unavailable in most places. Many places are allowed only single gender, and friends of opposite gender are not allowed to visit or stay overnight. I tried to explain the idea of couchsurfing to one of the potential landlords. She looked weird and probably thought I was either sluty or crazy. I didn't realize the place(hopefully can become a country at some point) I came from was so conservative at this point. Interesting~
